Accounting Advisory Council introduced at USF Sarasota-Manatee

SARASOTA, FL (May 6, 2009) – The new University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee Accounting Advisory Council (AAC) held their introductory meeting in April, followed by a meet and greet with the Accounting Society.  The Accounting Society is the largest student group on campus with 186 members.

Dr. Bob Anderson, associate dean of the College of Business, opened the meeting and discussed the impact of the USF Sarasota-Manatee’s separate accreditation from the main USF campus in Tampa.  An AAC Board election named Tommye Barie of CPA Associates as the Chairperson; Pat Gallagher of Natherson & Co., P.A. as the Chairperson Elect; Susan Flynn of Colonial Bank as the Treasurer; Jay Clarkson of CSL CPAs as At Large Member; and Dr. Robert Cockrum, Senior Lecturer at USF Sarasota-Manatee as Executive Secretary.

 

The Accounting program at USF Sarasota-Manatee is the largest Business program on campus.  Other programs in the College of Business include Finance, Marketing and General Business, Management, and Information Systems. 

“The USF Sarasota-Manatee pass rate on the state CPA exam is one of the highest in the state,” said Dr. Anderson.  “Most of our students are recruited and employed within Sarasota, Manatee and Charlotte Counties.  Our goal is to have all of the students who want a job in the area to stay in the area.  A good educational institution and its graduates are fuel for economic growth and sustainability.”
