Karen Roman, Event Coordinator at the Sarasota Yacht Club, gave the Club Management class a tour of the beautiful and historic club.
The club was organized in 1907 and incorporated in 1926. It was owned by John Ringling North from 1917 until 1940. The old club house was completely demolished 4 years ago and the impressive contemporary structure was finished about 18 months ago.
After the tour the students were greeted back in the banquet facility by several department heads. They each discussed their roles, responsibilities, and shared what a typical day is like for them. The class was impressed by the passion each area manager had for their job.
Bernie Kloppenburg, the general manager, spent about 30 minutes with the class discussing his theory of employee empowerment, the importance of networking, and taking charge of your own career.
