Intro to Hospitality class welcomed Bruce Baerwalde, Executive Vice President of McKibbon Hotel Management on February 20, 2013. Mr. Baerwalde shared his career path that took him from a night-shift housekeeper post in St. Pete Courtyard to Front Executive Vice President position that overseas 71 hotels in several states. He underlined the importance of hands-on experience, flexibility, ability to learn from your mistakes, and persistent efforts in the path to successful career ladder. He also explained his job responsibilities in managing the designing, finding investments, building, and running 71 hotels. He ended his presentation saying “This business is still about hospitality, stay in front of the guest, make the connection, that is what creates loyalty and contributes to a continuing revenue stream.” We thank Mr. Baerwalde for taking the time from his busy schedule to share his amazing successful story with our students.
