International Admissions
The University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee (USFSM) values diversity and a multicultural perspective. International applicants (non-resident aliens) are encouraged to submit their application. Proof of English proficiency is required.
International Admission Requirements
Students must be in good standing at the last institution attended. An international applicant (non-resident alien) must meet all admission requirements for the appropriate applicant category:
In order to review the applications the Admissions Office must also receive the following:
- Official transcripts: Submit all secondary school course work and grades in English. Transcripts in a language other than English must be accompanied by a certified translation. You must request your school to send transcripts from the first year of secondary work at the time of application directly to the Admissions Office. If this is impossible, send copies that have been certified by your school as "true copies" of the originals after they are copied. An official at your school should sign the document as "true copy of original." Post-secondary international credentials must be evaluated by an independent evaluation service, with associated costs to be paid by the student.
- Test scores: Freshmen and transfer applicants with less than two years of post-secondary education must submit an SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) or ACT (Academic College Test) score directly from the College Board or ACT. A TOEFL or IELTS score may be required for applicants whose first language is not English. For more information, see language requirements. Note. The SAT or ACT must include the Writing Section.
- Transfer applicants who have completed at least two years of postsecondary education may be required to submit a TOEFL or IELTS score if their first language is not English.
Post-secondary academic credentials awarded from non-US colleges or universities are required to have a course-by-course Foreign Credential Evaluation submitted, along with an official transcript from the issuing institution. All documents should be sent to the following address:
USF Sarasota-Manatee
Office of Admissions and Outreach

Language requirements
An international applicant who has completed at least the equivalent of a high school diploma in schools taught in non-English languages must demonstrate college-ready English skills. An applicant will be considered to have met the requirements if one of the following is met:
- SAT score of 1000 with 500 on each category of Reading and Writing
- ACT score of 21
- IELTS score of 6.5
- TOEFL score of 550 on the paper based test
- Internet-based TOEFL (IBT) of 79
Statement of Financial Responsibility
Submit the USF Financial Statement substantiating availability of financial resources sufficient to cover all educational, maintenance, and personal expenses while attending USFSM without financial assistance from the University.
Refer to the USF International Student and Scholars Services for additional information. Students who lack English proficiency should contact INTO USF.
Credential Evaluation Services
Applicants who completed part or all of their postsecondary (college or university) work at an institution not in the U.S. are required to submit an evaluation of that academic work. The evaluation must include a course by course evaluation, with grades or marks and credits or hours equated to the system in the U.S. Documents that are issued in a language other than English must also be accompanied by a literal English translation.
For your convenience, we have listed several Credential Evaluation Services. You should review the information on the documentation you are required to submit and the fees associated with evaluation and translation (if applicable). The credential evaluation must be submitted directly to the Office of Admissions by the service that performs the evaluation, and must include a copy of the original document, along with an English translation if necessary.
