ESOL - Courses

The ESOL Endorsement curriculum specifies three ESOL courses for all students of language arts and reading programs (Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, and Special Education).

  1. This course sequence applies to B.S. Elementary Education and MAT Sarasota campus students only. If Sarasota is not your home campus please consult your campus advisor for the proper ESOL course sequence.
  2. 4000-level courses are for undergraduate programs and 5000-level courses are for graduate programs.

TSL 4080/TSL 5085 (formerly FLE 4362/FLE 5430):  Curriculum and Pedagogy of ESOL

TSL 4251/TSL 5242 (formerly 4364/FLE 5432):  Applying Linguistics to ESOL Teaching and Testing

TSL 4081/TSL 5086(formerly FLE 4363/FLE 5431):  Literacy Development in ELL's

PLUS 4 Additional Experiences

In addition to the three courses above, the ESOL Endorsement curriculum requires ESOL Teacher Performance Standards to be developed in a minimum of four additional courses throughout the curriculum of all language arts and reading education programs (Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, and Special Education). This additional ESOL training is documented by the instructor of any class which supports the development of ESOL Teacher Performance Standards. (See ESOL Competencies Checklist (Add link here))
