Kate, graduating this term with her Bachelor’s in Elementary Ed, was just announced as the spring 2012 Golden Bull awardee for Outstanding Service and Leadership! Kate is the President of PRIDE (Promoing, Recriting, Increasing Diverse Educators). We all wish her the very best of luck as she enters the world of teaching!

New Associate Coordinator for PAInT Just Announced!
Dean Osborn announced Friday, 3/23, that Dr. Tricia Hunsader, has agreed to join, as the Associate Coordinator, the efforts spearheaded by Dr. Liz Larkin in the Office for Partnerships for Arts-Integrated teaching (PAInT).
Classroom Management Workshop Scheduled for March 29th
USFSM College of Education and the PRIDE (Promoting Recruiting, Increasing Diverse Educators) organization is proud to present a free training workshop with Jim Shaulis, Sarasota County School Board Professional Development representative, on Classroom Management. This workshop will help both new and experienced educators who are current students in the College of Education at USFSM learn how the classroom environment affects student achievement, how to develop and implement an effective behavior plan, and how to make the connection between classroom management and instruction among other topics. This workshop is free and includes dinner but you must RSVP to attend. The Importance of Youth Purpose and How to Support It Webinar on 3/22/12 with Dr. Jenni Mariano
The concept of youth purpose is based on the work by William Damon at the Stanford Center on Adolescence over a number of years. This topic was the focus of the Winter 2011 New Directions for Youth Development entitled ‘Support and Instruction for Youth Purpose.’ This webinar will feature guest speakers Dr. Jenni Menon Mariano, who edited the volume, as well as authors Betsy Levine Brown and Devora Shamah, a researcher. Dr. Byrd-Blake Selected as Panelist for Discussion on the Evolving Structure of Public Education: March 8, 6-8 pm
On Thursday, March 8th from 6-8 pm at the Harvest Tabernacle Church (209 North Lime Ave. in Sarasota), Dr. Byrd-Blake will serve as a panelist for an important panel discussion on the current state and future of community safety and the evolving structure of public education.
