Curriculum Vitae

Delaney J. Kirk, Ph.D., SPHR, has almost 30 years of teaching experience, including 18 years as a tenured full professor at Drake University before coming to the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee in 2007. She received her Ph.D. from the University of North Texas in 1988. Prior to teaching, she worked in marketing research, accounting, and training and development. She teaches a variety of courses in management including Employment Law, Labor Relations, HR Management, Managing Diversity, Organizational Behavior, and Leadership.  (more...)

Dr. Kirk's research interests include employment discrimination and procedural and distributive justice. She has authored articles in Labor Law Journal, Human Relations, SAM Advanced Management Journal, Journal of Business & Entrepreneurship, and the Journal of Management Education. Recently she has become interested in the use of social networking sites for recruiting, marketing, and customer service and wrote a book chapter on social media in Digital Product Management, Technology and Practice: Interdisciplinary Perspectives (IGI Global Publishing, 2011).

Dr. Kirk has taught workshops on classroom management and teaching effectiveness at numerous academic conferences and schools including Columbia University, Duke University, University of Washington, Graceland University, University of Nebraska, and St Petersburg College. Her book, Taking Back the Classroom: Tips for the College Professor on Becoming a More Effective Teacher (Tiberius Publications, 2005, 2008), is currently in its 3rd printing.

On a personal note, Dr. Kirk enjoys art, live music, traveling, writing short stories, and her two cats, "James T. KirkCat” and “Mouse.” She is very proud of her two successful and independent children: Tiffany who owns her own small business in education/training and Chris who is a Software Design Engineer at Microsoft.
