Program of Study

Prerequisites
There are no state-mandated common prerequisites for the degree in History.

Bachelor of Arts Graduation Requirement
This degree requires college level foreign language. Please contact an advisor for more information.

Course of Study
All undergraduate History majors must complete 36 upper-level semester hours, following the course of study presented below. A minimum of 30 upper-level history hours must be taken at USF. Students seeking an independent study can do so with the approval of the appropriate faculty member

A minimum of 36 semester hours is required for a major in history. All courses in the major must receive a grade of "C" or better.

Lower Level Course Prerequisites:
A minimum of 12 semester hours of 2000 level course, or their equivalent. Two of these courses must be sequential.

Students may choose from introductory courses listed below:  AFH, AMH, EUH, HIS
Ancient I, II
Medieval I, II
European, I, II
Western or World Civilization I, II
American History I, II

Upper Level Course Prerequisites for the Major:
Students are required to take a minimum of 16 semester hours of history electives from the 3000 - 4000 level.

Students are also required to take the following courses:

HIS 4104   Theory of History (4 credit hours)
HIS 4936   Pro-Seminar in History (4 credit hours)

NOTE: Additional courses outside the major will be needed to meet university requirements for graduation.

This degree may require travel to another USF campus for completion.
