About the ProgramThis program provides students with a solid foundation in the study of British and American literature. Courses are offered in other world literatures in translation, cultural studies, feminist and ethnic studies, and both traditional and more recent critical approaches. Mission StatementThe curriculum for an English degree with a concentration in literature from USF Sarasota-Manatee provides a solid foundation in the study of the British and American literary traditions, and develops the skills necessary for success in a variety of professional fields, including journalism, teaching, writing, editing, and areas of employment requiring sophisticated interpretive performance. By the time that literature majors are ready to graduate, they must be able to understand and analyze complex works of literature, to write about and discuss them in meaningful, thoughtful terms, and critically evaluate them. The skills fostered in the program help prepare students for real-world situations that require effective, powerful communication, both written and verbal. Students will have the opportunity to take a capstone course in order to demonstrate their competencies. Resident FacultyAdjunct Faculty
